Borgess Kids Fun Run!!!

This year we were able to participate in the kids fun run. It's sponsored by one of the local hospitals and Meijer. Everyone had a great time and we saw a lot of our friends there too. It is definitely going to be a yearly tradition for us, we had such a great time! It's a great time for the kids, they get t-shirts, food, baloons, freebies, ribbons, and of course get to run. They run a one mile course and the best part is its not a competition, just time for the kids to have fun.

Carter was fast, he and John ran it in under 10 minutes. Ash, Hannah and I were about 18 minutes. We walked some of it, and I didn't know that parents could go with the kids so I wasn't dressed for running,(I was wearing jeans, and a few layers up top, talk up over heating) and I was pushing Hannah in the jogger stroller that had almost flat wheels. Also we were with a few of our friends who had a 3 year old that was running, and we obviously needed to stay with her. Although, there were a few times that 3 year old was pushing us to go faster! So with all that our time was not too bad!

Here's the kids right before the run started (Carter looks so thrilled!)

Ashleigh and Ashleigh (that's right they spell it the same, so cool!) taking a walking break, they decided they would stick together. I think they were a little overwhelmed at times, there were over 1600 kids participating plus their parents.

We can't wait until next year, John wants to run the adult 5K with me next year, we'll see, running is not my favorite, one mile is okay, but 3, yikes!

A Sweet Reminder

My kids have been so grumpy with each other lately. It seems they can't do anything without fighting with each other. So I felt the need to post some pictures of them recently getting along, it brings such happiness to me and makes me smile. Which is much better then wanting to kill them!
Ashleigh is so good with hannah and puts up wih a lot from her. Ash was watching tv anf Hannah wanted to play with her hair, so Ashleigh let her ( she looks so thrilled). It mad e Hannah so excited because normally Ashleigh says no, I can't blame her because Hannah does not yet know that you don't hit peoples head with the brush when you put in their hair. Ash did say her head hurt afterwards.

I have yet to figure out this picture thing with the blog, sorry that the picture is turned and these next to are switched.
Here hannah is doing a hand stand with a little help from me, you will see why next.

Hannah always wants to do everything that her brother and sister do. She thought it was so awesome tthat Carter was doing a hand stand, so she put in a valiant effort but just couldn't figure out how to get her butt up.

It's so nice when they get along why can't they do this all the time? Parents will never know!

A New Haircut

Okay so last week Carter had left out a pair of scissors, and Hannah got a hold of them, and cut her hair. I have to say she did a good job since I didn't even notice until Carter found the hair on the floor. Well, it wasn't a catastrophe, I was able to hide the area by putting her hair in a pony or Barret.

So this morning I am in the shower and Ash and Carter were getting ready for school, and Hannah was watching cartoons (or so we thought). I come down stairs and look at Hannah and realize she has cut her hair again, but this time its bad! There were absolutely no scissors within her reach, but she was so determined to get them that she got a chair, opened the computer cabinet, and then used the chair to get her high enough to then use the shelves as stairs. So needless to say she got the scissors just like she wanted.

I didn't know how to react I wanted to laugh, scream, and cry. Carter took care of the laughing, I yelled, and Ash just says it will be okay Mom, yeah right. I couldn't do anything about the cut then I had to get the kids to school and get to the doctor, so I put a headband in her hair and it disguised it pretty well. So this afternoon I have now fixed the cut, I have to say it's not my favorite, but I had very few options so I did the best I could, and hopefully it will grow fast! By the way the pictures do not do justice to how bad it really is.

THE BEFORE

front view (not too bad maybe needs bangs now!)
Notice she seems pretty happy with what she has done, she had absolutely no remorse.

The right side

The left side ( she seems to think that mullets are still in style)

Thank goodness she couldn't reach the back or I'm sure that would have been cut too

The new cut, the bangs had to be so short to blend, yuck!

No "Champagning"

The other day Ashleigh said the funniest thing to us. Ashleigh and John were talking about when she gets older and of course the dating thing came up and John was going on and on about how she isn't going to be able to date until shes 30. Of course Ash is like whatever Dad and then they kept on at each other. Then Ashleigh says well Dad " You are not going to be champagning." Both John and I are like what do you mean by no champagning, and she kept saying you are not going to be champagning, we still didn't get it so we asked her to elaborate on what she meant and finally she says no champagning at my prom. This is when I finally got it, John still was confused, so I said do you mean no chaperoning at your prom, and she answered me with a yes, but with a tone that sounded like Duh, my parents are so dumb! Well once that was figured out of course John wanted to get her even more wound up and was like I will be chaperoning or you won't go to prom. I am sure this fight will never end, but at least we don't have to worry about how she knows about champagne at least for now she says I can't have that, good girl just keep remembering that Ash!

I Wish Spring Break was Over!!!!!

So today has not gone well at all. The kids are at each others throats and extremely emotional from a lack of sleep. This weekend was great but very busy and today we are paying the consequences. It has been temper tantrums and fighting amongst Ash and Carter. I can't even begin to count the number of times children have been sent to their rooms today.

To highlight the day Hannah has decided to do whatever she can to us pull our hair out. Here is how this afternoon has gone so far. Hannah has decided recently that when she has a messy diaper she will take care of it herself, yikes! So we have been keeping a close eye on her, but she manages to escape us every now and then and today she did it. She took off her diaper and made the biggest mess ever in our room, so I got her a bath and got her cleaned up. Then while I am cleaning up the room she found Ashleigh's nail polish, that of course Ash would forget to put away (Ashleigh swears she put it away, though, which is impossible since the polish goes into a locked drawer that Hannah can't open) so of course Hannah decided to open every bottle and pour it out, the only good thing about this is it was in the bathroom so clean up was pretty easy just incredibly annoying.

Can the day get any worse, of course it can because right at this moment Ash and Carter are screaming at each other about the play station (they don't know it yet, but I will be taking that away as soon as I finish this post), and Hannah is right by my leg throwing herself on the floor because she is so tired she doesn't know what to do and won't take a nap. The week is off to a GREAT start! Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!

It's a Yearly Tradition!

The monster trucks racing each other

This truck is doing a donut, you can see the tire marks in the dirt
Apparently this is a major event in the judging

This is Grave Digger, Carter's favorite truck!

The first year that Ashleigh had a father Daughter dance Carter was extremely put out that he wasn't able to do something fun with just Dad. So John felt bad and it happened that the Thunder Nationals were coming to Grand Rapids a few weeks later, so he ended up taking Carter to see them and they had a blast!! So every year it has worked out that the Thunder Nationals come to town about the same time as the Father Daughter dance.

This year John, Carter, Grnadpa, Uncle Mike, and Aidan all went. It was Aidan's first time and he apparently had a great time. Sorry no pictures of the whole group. (that's what happens when you put the men in charge of the camera!)
Sorry about th epictures being first, I'm still trying to figure out this blog thing

It's Mine Again!!!

John started his new job this weekend. It's not yet a police officer job to start his certification, but as John say "a stepping stone in the right direction." Anyway today I have to say I absolutely loved that John was not around, sorry Hun (technically he was, but he was sleeping because he works 3rd shift) I have my house back to do things the way I want. I was able to stack the dishwasher the "right way", KEEP THINGS PICKED UP AND TIDY (that's right John I discovered you actually make a lot of the mess, not the kids) and most of all I was able to accomplish everything on my to do list today, because I had no distractions!

I shouldn't be so happy, because John has been a tremendous help while he's been home, but I am ocd and a clean freak so I have always done the house work and loved it. I was so giddy today to be able to do everything my self and my way. With this happiness comes some struggle too. Hannah has her Daddy wrapped around her finger, and I think she gets her way when it's just her and Dad so she and I had some struggles, but she quickly caught on to I am the one she got that strong will from and I have mastered it more than her and she eventually gave in. She actually took a nap today, Yeah!

I don't know how long this will last, but I will enjoy it for as long as I can. We received some very good news this past weekend that it looks as if John will probably be hired in April to start at Kalamazoo County, and this will be a fantastic job and will start his certification. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed because as we have learned from the past nothing is for sure until you have a start date. So if he does land this job and works the 4 -midnight shift like they expect he will, he will be home during the day again and I will once again have to bite my tongue and be grateful for the help.
